Herndon Monument Climb at the United States Naval Academy
Midshipman work together during the Herndon Monument Climb at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland on May 22, 2017. Midshipman Joe McGraw, of Rockford, Illinois, placed the upperclassman hat on top of the monument after 2 hours, 21 minutes and 21 seconds. The Herndon Monument Climb is the traditional culmination of the plebe year, or first year, at the U.S. Naval Academy. The class must work together to retrieve a white plebs "dixie cup" hat off of the monument and replace it with an upperclassman's hat. Photo by Kevin Dietsch/UPI
